Emo Band Sightings

Listened to any great emo bands lately? Besides the bands we've all heard of? Sorry for the recent drought of updates, but in the next 2 minutes you're going to learn about 5 relatively unknown emo bands and what I have planned for them.

First, let me say one thing...

The Only Good Band Is An Obscure Band!

There are too many good bands out there who don't receive enough attention. Even worse, many bands that deserve to be played on the radio will live out their lives in total obscurity because they havn't the first clue how to promote themselves. And who else is affected? You are! The people who would listen to their music. This cannot be allowed to continue.

Free Internet Radio!

Because of this unfortunate reality I've been working behind the scenes on a few awesome ideas, to include starting regular podcast and radio show for emo bands. The radio show will feature top-notch bands who don't necessarily get their fair share of media coverage. While predominantly emo, indie and punk bands might be included as well.

So. My Talent Search Begins

In my search for talented, relatively unknown indie and emo bands, myspace has proved invaluable. More than a handful of bands on myspace stood out as potential candiates for the House of Emo radio show. And I must say--I was impressed. And I'm going to share a couple of these bands.

You may or may not know about these bands already but in my opinion they deserve mega radio time! If not real radio time, internet radio time. As you'll see, some of them may need to polish their sound a little bit first though.

A Day Without Words - Emo / Indie - "Members from 3 broken bands formed in October of 2004. Common obsession over their love for music, have bound these guys in friendship for life. Like a tornado, A Day Without Words hits the scene and picks up everyone in there path. Feeling high from your fix, they leave you wanting more!" Check out the Emo Kid graphic they have on their myspace band profile."

About Silence - Emo / Screamo - "Welcome to the norm. In a genre filled with copycats and imitators, About Silence (or ASx) have managed to develop themselves as an original sound. Rampaging around the Maryland/Virginia/D.C. area, ASx have toppled towns, razed castles, all the while accumulating a following of dedicated fans and listeners."One of the band members states: "It was a mixture of boredom and alot of drugs that led me to these manic ideas."

TwentyOneRest - Emo / Hardcore - "TwentyOneRest blends Emo and Hard Rock into a form of alternative Rock centered around strong melodies, driving rock beats, raw emotion, and pure energy. They say that from the beginning, the band’s main goal has been to touch and move people with their music, but I hear they're real jerks. Not that it affects their music."

Parker Theory - Indie / Alternative - "Parker theory is a unique five piece band from san diego, california armed with hard-driving sounds, three part harmonies, and a positive energy. With inspiration taken from Coldplay, each song has its own feel, ranging from alternative to indie to melodic. Hard work and dedication is what this band is all about."

Tokyo Rose - Indie / Punk - "Outstanding New Jersey bands are a dime a dozen inside New Jersey. Outside of New Jersey it's a whole 'nother story, where natives say "only the strong survive."

Keep in mind the above captions are what the bands had to say about themselves. However, I have carefully listened to them all and I think you'll agree that these bands have merit.

As busy as I am it will probably take me a couple of weeks to make my rounds and figure out which bands are worthy to be featured on the House of Emo podcast. One band, who isn't listed above, but who I'm really excited about nonetheless, has already agreed to do an interview. How awesome is that? Stay "tuned in" because in the coming days I will update you on all the behind-the-scenes details of my talent search.

Who knows, maybe SickMoshBro's shiny new band will accidentally get discovered in the process...

Its Dylan. I think you very write. Most emo bands don't get the attention they deserve. And the bands that do never have the right songs made popular. One emo band i love is Trapt. they have a very good song that was overlooked and buried in the junk yard along with the leftover banana peel. The song is called Bleed Like Me. Its a very warping song. I hope you find the song and them pleasing.
Forever always, Dylan

Great unsigned emo progressive acoustic band that's pretty sweet. I'm actually friends with them.

"ORIGIONAL DIRIGIBLE"

They're a band from Niles, Ohio. Check em out on Myspace Music. Download a song.

Lean wit it, rock wit it.

My personal opinion on emo band popularity is this. Hearing a band played every 4th song on radio stations across the world is quite a bit different from hearing their songs played on two or three popular internet venues (if House of Emo should ever be so lucky =-] ). More often than not, it's heavy corporate influences which ruin our favorite bands for us, not the fact that the band is popular. People who blame a bands deterioration on popularity are mistaking the symptom for the problem.

I want to promote underrepresented bands, mostly unsigned indie/emo bands, through a platform free from the influences of big labels. The HoE podcast would act as a filter, funneling attention toward bands who deserve it. The bands would benefit directly from this exposure in a couple ways: Initial exposure, plus links to their band websites where listeners can learn more about them and their music, and even purchase copies of their music of the bands are set up for that.

Bye, bye to all the middlemen.

Um. This portion of the page is specially dedicated to Emo Band Sightings. Hence the name. If you want to talk shit about how much we whine about life, post your homophobic comments under Calling All Emo. Or Emo Kid Needs Help..

Let's stay focused here.

I'm attending an Original Dirigible show this saturday. They don't whine or wear make-up or girl pants so even if you're not emo you're allowed to like em. I advise y'all to check out their Myspace Music page cause they deserve it.

Leave 'em a comment saying that "sickmoshbro sent you" and you will get 3 and 1/2 black stars.

Hey, how's it going? A friend and I just finished working on a blog music player project and launched it last week. We are trying to get bloggers (especially those who blog about music) to beta test it for us. It's free. We don't spam you or anything. But if you've got a second and can check out our site, that would be rad.

www.tornadostream.com

Our player let's you create your own "radio station" from our music library.

For sure send us any comments or questions you have.

Thanks a ton. (sorry if this looks like spam. just trying to get the word out)

I'm attending a Futon Palace show this Sunday. It's going to be hosted by FUSE T.V. so it's kind of a big deal. These guys deserve some recognition for the years of hard work that it took to construct the wall of sound that they have become. Check their Myspace out (I posted a link earlier on this page for it). Find out more about this awesome unsigned band.

Thankx.
