Goodbye My Chemical Romance, Welcome The Black Parade
In My Chemical Romance news, remember in my last post when I told you I wasn't impressed with the bands new song, Welcome to the Black Parade? Maybe I'm just being an insolent little emo kid who's doting on his sweetheart, but hear me out. Then you can watch a cool video interview with the band and tell me what you think.
Why I don't like Welcome to the Black Parade
I can think of at least 5 transitions in Welcome to the Black Parade that seem out of place in the song. Just when you think you know where this song is going they throw in a completely random diddy that doesn't do the songs intro justice. The intro is Welcome to the Black Parade's only saving grace.
In the interests of maintaining a reasonably fair and balanced view, I decided to do some digging. Not like my whiny little voice would put My Chemical Romance under too much pressure to change. But you know what I found out? Would you believe that The Black Parade is more than just the name of their new song? First the song suffers from an extreme case of multiple personality disorder, and then I find out that The Black Parade is the bands "new persona" for this album.
If this is all news to you, like it was to me, check out this Video interview with the band members.
The Video Interview with My Chemical Romance
Leave it to musicians and song writers to say a lot without really saying anything at all. The Video Interview starts with My Chemical Romance performing live as The Black Parade and goes downhill from there. The major takeaways from this video interview with them (aka, the Black Parade) are as follows:
- The answers to your questions: What is the Black Parade? Is My Chemical Romance dead? God I can't wait to see how this will affect concert ticket sales.
- Lead singer Gerard Way tires of his emo hairstyle, but his band members obviously havn't. Check him out wearing his new look in the interview.
- Band members discuss all the right and wrong reasons to start a band and how to grow from there.
- Was My Chemical Romance really in a car accident?
- Oh and here's the interesting part. What it's really like being on tour with your friends, explained once and for all. Wow.
To make a long story short. The interview sucks, like the new song and new band.
Don't hate me, I'm trying ok?
Am I the only one who feels this way about My Chemical Romances' aka The Black Parade's new album? I'm trying to appreciate this new persona of theirs, from just about every appreciable dimension of making music: band name, song writing, live performance, sense of style... even raw sex appeal. Ok, turn the volume down and they still have sex appeal. Yet I can't take the sinking feeling that the band is taking drowning lessons from themselves.
How to shoot yourself in the foot.
I'm ok with bands evolving as artists and refining their sound. Even a totally different sound is refreshing every once in a while. Pearl Jam has been able to pull this off brilliantly as a band. That's a natural progression every individual band member makes as a musician.
I'm not ok with bands who shapeshift uncontrollably, drifting from persona to persona. and make a mission out of constantly reinventing themselves. This is historically guaranteed to be a bad move for bands, new ones in particular. Of course, they're the same band we know and love, but I can't help wondering if My Chemical Romance might end up alienating their core group of fans by embarking on this brave new project.

i think it is a great new sound..... about time someone brought back some great queen sounding music!!!!
also have you heard dead? they played and reading and leeds that was Bleepin Awesome!!!!! WOOT!
i just got my first kiss yesterday! haha x
xxxxx
My Chemical Romance is like one of the greatest bands to come out in the last few years. But that doesn't mean they can't do any wrong. The Black Parade, while not HORRIBLE, does seem a little contrived to me.
Just my two coppers worth.
and the song isnt my favorite.
im hoping the rest of the album doesnt sound like that.
they had something great,
and id hate for them to lose that.
But i dont really think they're going to change for anybody.
isnt that the whole point?
maybe i've gotten this musical artist image wrong.
but when i write songs, thats what i do. i do what i want.
i dont let anything outside of it influence me.
it wouldnt be right that way.
but no, i dont like it near as much
as the old stuff.
and yeah, the song does take some unexpected turns.
but i kinda like that part about it.
it starts off too slow for a mcr song to me though.
but i mean, its gerard way,
whats not to love?
but I <3 the black parade!!
tehe
PEACE OUT
xxxx
To be honest i don't want to just stop liking MCR just because they've decided to do something different, i do hope their album is better that Welcome to the black parade, but hey their experimenting and good luck to them for it :)
But thats just me XD
i think bowie and madonna would beg to differ. of course, they are individual artists, not bands, so maybe that is where the difference lies.
i didn't care too much for the song at first, but i found myself wanting to listen to it and singing it in my head. it has grown on me. i realized my problems are not with the song itself, but the production. i don't like the sound of it, the way it was recorded. its a bit too clean and neat for me. the rawness/energy of the other 2 mcr albums seems to be missing (or pro-tooled away).
i am waiting until the album comes out (i cannot be bothered with listening to the interview or seeking out clips. i am old, i just cannot be arsed.) to make my final judgement on this thing as a whole though.
and if it wasnt for the fact that i fell in love with them before, im not sure if i would like them now.
gerards poor hair....
but i still like the song. and the videos pretty awesome too.
I think MCR are awesome, but changing their name will do them no favours. And, Welcome to The Black Parade, it sucks. SOOO BAD. I couldn't agree with you any more. If they change anything, I know I'll go off them. Where have the old, MCR gone, The MCR who did great songs, and not call themselves by what they were dubbed! Hopefully, the old MCR will be back soon,
Sam.
